Soul Song Gawler is launching in November 2024 with an afternoon workshop, followed by a 5 week taster pop up choir.  The vision is to continue with a permanent choir in 2025, which will also be joined by one or two sister choirs in Adelaide from January.

The Gawler and Adelaide choirs will be part of a network of community pop choirs across Australia who meet for the joy of singing and the love of community.  While you'll be part of a thriving local community, you'll also have the opportunity for regional, interstate and international travel and exciting projects with over 500 members across Australia if that's something that excites you!

Check out the About Us tab of this website to find out more about us, our values and our music.

If you are based in Adelaide and want to be notified when our Adelaide choirs are open for registration, please leave your details here and we'll be in touch before the end of 2024 with all the exciting information!

KICK OFF WORKSHOP

We will be launching the Gawler choir with a one-off pop singing workshop where you'll get the chance to spend the afternoon singing a collection of energetic and powerful pop songs all mashed together in medleys and mashups. These were originally created for our 2024 Adelaide Fringe Show, Bangers and Mash Ups, which was a sell out success.  They will all be songs that you know and that will get you very quickly throwing your head back and singing for joy!

Soul Song Founder and Director, Jacqueline Larsen (Jaq) will be coming in from Brisbane to run the workshop.

You don't need any musical experience, or even ability - just a sense of adventure.  We will give you everything you need to get singing really quickly.

Anyone 16+ is welcome to come and get their sing on!  You don't need to be a Soul Song member or to plan on attending our regular rehearsals.

The workshop will run for 4 hours with a break for afternoon tea and, as a BONUS, we'll wrap up the session with a free performance for family and friends so that you can can show off what you've learned!  They will even get to singalong with some of it too!

  • Sunday 10 November, 1.30-5pm with performance from 5-5.30pm
  • Evanston Progress Association Hall, 65 Angle Vale Road, Evanston Gardens (adjacent to the Evanston Gardens Primary School and Evanston Library)
  • $25 including workshop resources, afternoon tea, GST and a performance

WEEKLY REHEARSALS

Soul Song Gawler, directed by Brianna Teehan and Cindy-Anne Macdonald, will initially rehearse every Thursday from 14 November - 12 December 2024, with plans to continue in 2025.

New members are welcome at any time and your first rehearsal is always free so you can check us out without obligation.

NB: As we are expecting a lot of interest and have limited capacity in the venue, to avoid disappointment, we recommend that you pre-register with us to reserve your space.  There is no payment required to register or for the first rehearsal, but it will help us to know who is coming and ensures that you'll be in the room where it happens for our first ever Soul Song rehearsal outside of Queensland!

If you want to know more before registering, you can give Jaq a call first on 0412 255 587 if it will help with the first rehearsal nerves!

The singing starts at 6.30pm but doors opens from 6.00pm so you're welcome to come in a bit early.  Rehearsals go through until 8.30pm.   There is great food downstairs in the pub if you want to grab a meal first and you're more than welcome to buy a drink at the bar downstairs and bring it up into the rehearsal room.

At a typical rehearsal, we will do some fun warm ups before working on two songs and finishing with a celebratory song at the end of the session known as the Soulster Parade.

Those who come the most often get the most out of Soul Song but there is no expectation for people to come every single week and we have lots of resources available for those who miss a week or two to help them catch up if they want to.  You'll get more information on this when you join, but these include audio learning tracks, video tutorials, sheet music, technical tutorials and more.

We will give you a member pack and all the lyrics you need once you've signed up. Then each week when you come, you just need to bring some water, a highlighter, pen or pencil, your lyric book and reading glasses if you're of that kind of age!
